Background

Maziar Kouhyar is a 24-year-old footballer for York City F.C. and the Afghanistan national side, and one of the brightest young British Asian players in the country.

Maz came through the youth system at Coventry and then Walsall, where he became the first Afghan to play professionally in the UK.

Following a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to an ACL injury, Maz was released by Walsall in Spring 2020 and was out of the game for almost a year, working as a car salesman, before Be. raised his profile with a series of articles in the national media and found him a club. Having signed for Conference North side Hereford in March 2021, Maz fulfilled a childhood dream when his second game back was at Wembley Stadium in the FA Trophy Final 2020/2021.

He also received a recall to the Afghanistan squad for their 2022 World Cup Qualifying campaign, and the ambitious youngster has his sights set on getting back playing in the Football League.
